Unfortunately, not much is known about Terada Ayase, since she only appears in three episodes of the series. She is an Alter user, meaning that she can manipulate matter into different forms by force of will. Her particular power can turn anything her hair touches into water. Later in the series, she is "refined" and can use her power to manipulate water in any way she chooses.

Ayase is extremely devoted to her younger brother, Akira, and will do anything to protect him, even fight those she considered friends. She is by no means a weak woman, and can hold her own in any battle -- physical or verbal. While she can be sharp-tongued at times, she has a kind and brave heart, and will fight to the death for those she loves.

She is friends with Kimishima and Kazuma, and knows that Kimishima has a crush on her. However, she is more attracted to Kazuma, even though he doesn't know it. She was impressesed with him when he helped her rescue her sick brother and others from a labor camp. He taught her to keep moving forward, no matter what wall was in front of her. In turn, she joined his side when he decided to stand against the Alter-hunting forces of HOLY. However... their stand ended in failure, and she and several others were captured.

she was taken to a HOLY experimentation facility on the mainland to have her Alter "refined"... a process has shortened her life greatly. She had been trained to fight Kazuma, having been told that her brother's life will be spared if she does. Her brother was being held in a Mainland medical facility, receiving the treatments he needs as long as Ayase cooperated.

Returning to the Lost Ground, Ayase fought against Kazuma, first attacking him for show, then pulling him to an underwater cave to plead with him to come back with her of his own free will. He was sympathetic to her, but refused... and became the "wall" before her. She fought against him with all of her strength, but he managed to escape from drowning in her created ocean. Just as he showed his true power in second form, and was about to attack, Ayase saw her brother's life end through the monitor she wore on her wrist. Deciding that there was no reason to fight--or live--any longer, she dropped her guard and opened her arms to Kazuma, welcoming his attack. Luckily, he pulled back and did not actually hit her, but it was too late. Ayase's life had been drained by her Alter, and without the will to live, she had nothing to keep her going. After a few last words of regret, she died in Kazuma's arms.
